Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking an Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician for the Federal Fuels Program in Collinsville, IL. The role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance of automated hydrant fueling systems, sensors, valves, motors, PLCs, and SCADA equipment.

Ideal candidates will have a strong mechanical/electrical background, a relevant associate degree, and the ability to obtain a CAC/clearance as required. Travel up to 75% is expected, with field work across CONUS/OCONUS.

• Associates Degree or equivalent education in controls, electronics, instrumentation, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Responsibilities:

Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking an Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician with a strong mechanical/electronic background to perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance for automated fuel distribution system monitoring and control equipment such as sensors, valves, motors, PLCs, and SCADA systems related to the Hydrant Fueling Automation Maintenance (HFAM) Support Program. Prior experience in electrical maintenance and instrumentation on automated Federal aviation fueling systems preferred. Candidates will be considered for field activities serving our federal sector clients at CONUS and OCONUS locations. The I&E Technician will:

• Perform preventive maintenance tasks
• Perform corrective maintenance tasks
• Perform failure analysis and implement improvements
• Calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair hydrant fueling automation system controls, valves, and instruments
• Troubleshoot and repair control circuits and motor control centers
• Mount, wire, program, and test instrumentation and control equipment
• Write reports and record data on testing techniques, equipment, and specifications
• Enter work order information into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) database
• Maintain effective communications with clients, subcontractors, and internal team members
• Schedule and conduct on-site meetings with clients and subcontractors as required
• Continually update knowledge of automated fuel distribution systems and instrumentation
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns
• Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and in a timely manner to meet deadlines
• Work independently or with others as a team to complete assigned projects
• Travel as needed, approximately 75%
• Work overtime as required
• Perform additional duties as required

• 5 years of experience with a strong technical background
• Associates Degree or equivalent education in controls, electronics, instrumentation, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to provide technical expertise as required
• Experience executing on‑site fuel distribution system preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, safety procedures, and troubleshooting activities affiliated with military fueling systems is highly desirable
• Maintain a valid driver's license
• Must be able to obtain a DOD Common Access Card (CAC) within first 3 months of employment and/or pass a favorable Background Investigation (BI)

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

If this position requires a CAC card, CUI Enclave Access and/or a Security Clearance, a background check will be completed.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of electricity, voltage, and current relationships
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and Company environmental guidelines
• Knowledge of maintenance activities and procedures performed on control systems used in fuel distribution
• Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) manufactured by General Electric (GE), GE-Fanuc, Allen Bradley, Emerson, Siemens, etc.
• Knowledge of techniques for troubleshooting ladder logic to identify faults by monitoring real‑time PLC program executing, checking physical input/output (I/O) status, and verifying field wiring
• Knowledge of automatic tank gauging (ATG) equipment, instrumentation, monitors, sensors, switches, consoles, communication devices, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and auxiliary equipment
• Mechanical or electrical aptitude
• Ability to use mathematics including algebra and geometry to take measurements and perform computations required for installation and calibration of equipment
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, electronic, and digital controllers used in control loops
• Ability to calibrate and perform maintenance on temperature, level, and pressure instruments and transmitters
• Ability to use a personal computer and associated software
• Ability to do routine cleaning of work area
• Ability to complete all written and electronic records to document work in progress and completed
• Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
• Ability to demonstrate good organizational and teamwork skills
• Close vision, color vision, depth and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus are necessary for inspecting equipment and identifying defects
• Ability to hear well enough to test sounds and identify the functioning level of equipmentAbility to respond quickly to sounds and dangerous situations, if needed
