Job description

Job Purpose

Receive and follow instructions to install, repair, maintain, and adjust instruments and electrical equipment used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition. Work through a work order system to efficiently, safely, and qualityly meet plant requirements. Must be able to work in all plant areas with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • SHE Stewardship: Maintain safety as highest priority, obey all INEOS safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote and utilize INEOS "20 Principles of Safety" and "Coaching for Safety" & "Stop Work".
  • Communicate safety with employees/contractors before tasks, during meetings, and as opportunities arise.
  • Ensure compliance with safety & environmental regulatory requirements; strive to meet internal SHE objectives.
  • Complete training requirements per annual schedule.
  • Assist in implementing cost reduction ideas.
  • Perform tasks: disassemble malfunctioning instruments, test mechanisms, troubleshoot equipment in/out of control system, replace/repair defective parts, reassemble, test for conformance using tools such as potentiometer, resistance bridge, manometer.
  • Inspect instruments, conduct minor calibration adjustments, ensure functioning within specified standards.
  • Adjust and repair final control mechanisms like valves or positioners.
  • Inspect, test, adjust, and repair electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic instruments for operations.
  • Inspect meters, indicators, gages, test accuracy of flow meters, pressure gages, temperature indicators, controllers; locate defects using measurement equipment.
  • Trace and test electronic solid-state and vacuum-tube circuitry; locate defective parts in analog/digital protection systems.
  • Remove faulty instruments, disassemble, clean, replace parts using hand tools.
  • Calibrate readings, adjust phasing, align stages to ensure accurate recording/indicating.
  • Record calibrations, parts used, inventory of parts online.
  • Prepare schematic drawings, sketches, reports reflecting changes or alterations.
  • Locate cable faults, analyze impedance using oscilloscope, signal generator, TDR.
  • Repair, test, calibrate electronic equipment; diagnose malfunctioning transformers, motors, lighting fixtures; replace wires/cables using hand tools.
  • Install/repair electrical systems, apparatus, components of industrial machinery following codes, manuals, diagrams, blueprints.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, electrical/electronic test equipment.
  • Install power supply wiring/conduit for new machines/equipment.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, motors, position sensors.
  • Diagnose & replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic components.
  • Repair computer, fiber-optic cables, alarm systems.
  • Install cable/conduits for telephone system; install and repair UPS, PLCs, inverters, frequency drives.
  • Perform routine/non-routine housekeeping to keep areas clean and safe.
  • Keep supervisor informed on job status.
Required Education and Experience

Minimum 3 years and maximum 5 years experience as an Instrument/Electrical Technician in an industrial environment or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Software: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Skype, Visio, Adobe PDF, SharePoint, SAP, Microsoft Project.
  • Site systems: Emerson Distributed Control System, PI Data Historian, COA Database, Training Mine, Alfresco Document Management, Esker.
  • Tools: drill press, grinder, hacksaw, drill motors, rotary hammers, hydraulic knockout sets, hole saw, cable cutters, crimping tools, conduit benders, jigsaw, sabre saw, soldering guns, Jet Line vacuum system, cable locator, megger, Simpson Meter, VOM, voltage tester, Fluke LED V.O.M., threading machine, power pony, threader/hand threader, cable puller, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, tap & die set, phase rotation meter, phase indication meter, ladder, extension ladder, manlifts, trencher, bicycle, electronic testing devices.
  • Test equipment: multimeter, oscilloscope, manometer, frequency generator, frequency counter, decade box, pressure gauge, digital pressure indicator, pressure regulator, bead blaster, ultrasonic cleaner, high-pressure bottles, pH tester, tubing cutter, tubing bender, bench grinder, torque wrench, hand pressure pump, electric vacuum pump, temperature calibrator, digital VOM, tag engraver, digital weight scale, AC/DC power supplies, thermocouple/RTD tester, Rosemount communicator, Ametek pneumatic/electric calibrator.
Physical Requirements

Heavy work: Exert up to 100 lb occasionally, 50 lb frequently, or 20 lb constantly to move objects.

Possible conditions: work can involve extreme cold (<32°F), extreme heat (>100°F), noise that requires shouting, vibration, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical current, scaffolding, high places, high heat or chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, oils cutting fluids. Worker required to wear respirator and gas mask.
