Job summary

Koch Fertilizer in Wever, IA seeks an Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Planner to coordinate maintenance activities, outages, and turnarounds, driving safe, efficient operations and long-term value.

You will build detailed job packages in Maximo and Procore/ACC, align with I&E technicians and operations, mentor team members, and push continuous improvement through new planning approaches while upholding strict EHS standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience planning industrial maintenance or turnaround work packages.
  • Experience with PLCs, instrumentation, or electrical systems including calibration, testing, troubleshooting, or installation.
  • Exposure to reading and interpreting technical documents (P&IDs, schematics, isometrics) and translating them into executable work plans.
  • Experience training or mentoring team members.
  • Able to perform physical requirements including climbing stairs/ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in various conditions.

  • Coordinate contractor work during outages and mentor maintenance team members on planning processes.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement through technology adoption and new ways of working.

Job description

Koch Fertilizer is seeking a dynamic Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Planner to join our team in Wever, Iowa. As a key contributor, you will play a vital role in planning and coordinating maintenance activities that drive safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate across teams, implement new technologies, and help transform maintenance and outage processes to create long-term value.

Our Team

You will collaborate with site I&E Technicians, cross-site planners and Operations to plan and execute daily maintenance activities as well as outage and turnaround work. This role reports to the Maintenance Superintendent and partners closely with operations, maintenance, and contractor teams to support plant performance and reliability.

What You Will Do
  • Plan and estimate I&E maintenance activities using equipment history, subject matter expertise, and proven planning methods
  • Apply codes, standards, and reliability strategies to support safe and efficient execution of work
  • Build detailed job packages in systems such as Maximo and Procore/ACC for daily work, outages, and turnarounds, including scope, duration, and materials
  • Conduct field job package walkdowns with internal teams and contractors to validate plans and align on execution expectations
  • Support the integration of outage work into prioritized and optimized schedules
  • Review post-job results to identify improvement opportunities and enhance planning effectiveness
  • Develop preventative maintenance plans that improve plant reliability
  • Coordinate and manage contractor work during outagesTrain and mentor maintenance team members on planning processes and outage support roles
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement through technology adoption and new ways of working
  • Ensure strong adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) practices in all planning activities
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Experience developing industrial maintenance or turnaround work packages
  • Experience with PLCs, instrumentation, or electrical systems including calibration, testing, troubleshooting, or installation
  • Exposure to or experience in reading and interpreting technical documents (e.g., P&IDs, schematics, isometrics, and engineering specifications) and translate them into executable work plans
  • Experience training or mentoring team members
  • Willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the position:
  • Climb stairs and ladders, including those on vessels and scaffolding exceeding 100 feet
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
  • Work in hot, cold, and inclement weather conditions
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, FR clothing, gloves, safety boots, respirators, and specialty suits as required by tasks
  • Work in confined spaces or congested areas when needed
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience planning rotating equipment, fixed equipment, electrical, or instrumentation work
  • Working knowledge of planning or estimating software (e.g., Maximo or similar systems)
  • Experience in a chemical, refining, or industrial manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience as an I&E Technician or similar hands‑on role
  • Strong desire to contribute, learn, and help others succeed
