Koch Fertilizer in Wever, Iowa seeks an Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician to join the Reliability team. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and improve instrumentation, electrical, and control systems critical to safe, reliable plant operations.

Qualifications

  • Two years or more of related electrical/instrumentation/controls experience.
  • Associate degree or completion of an apprenticeship in a related field.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (outdoor work, lifting, PPE, climbing, confined spaces).

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
  • Support reliability initiatives by identifying issues and implementing improvements.
  • Install, configure, and maintain field instrumentation, analyzers, valves, motor controls.
  • Support and maintain DCS, SIS, and PLC-based control systems.
  • Collaborate with teams to safely execute maintenance activities and plant improvements.
  • Assist commissioning/startup activities, including loop checks and functional verification.
  • Maintain technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance records.

Education

Associate degree in Industrial Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, or Controls Technology
Completion of an apprenticeship in electrical/instrumentation/controls

Job description

Koch Fertilizer in Wever, Iowa is seeking an Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician to join our Reliability team. In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining and improving the instrumentation , electrical, and control systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. You will work alongside operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to troubleshoot problems, improve reliability, and identify opportunities to create long-term value for the business.

We are looking for individuals who are motivated by solving problems, continuously building their technical capability, and taking ownership of improving equipment performance. Successful candidates are comfortable challenging the status quo, learning new technologies , and collaborating with others to develop better solutions.

Schedule: 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week on a rotating schedule

What You Will Do
  • Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation, electrical, and control systems that support plant operations.
  • Support reliability initiatives by identifying equipment issues, investigating root causes, and implementing improvements that reduce downtime.
  • Install, configure, and maintain field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, motor controls, and automation equipment.
  • Support and maintain Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and PLC-based control systems.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to safely execute maintenance activities, projects, turnarounds, and plant improvements.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities, including loop checks, testing, validation, and functional verification of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance records.
  • Advance safety and compliance through the application of safe work practices, Management of Change (MOC), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) processes.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Meet one of the following:
  • Two (2) or more years of related electrical, instrumentation, and/or controls experience
  • Associate degree in Industrial Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Controls Technology, or a related technical field
  • Completion of an apprenticeship in a related electrical, instrumentation, or controls discipline
  • And are willing and able to meet the physical requirements of the position:
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary
  • Climb ladders and work at heights
  • Enter confined spaces as required
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience in a fertilizer, chemical, refining, manufacturing, power generation, or other continuous process environment
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining process instrumentation, analyzers, and control valves
  • Experience with DCS, PLC, and SIS control systems
  • Experience working with MCCs, VFDs, motor controls, and medium-voltage electrical systems
  • Knowledge of HART or other industrial communication protocols
  • Experience using troubleshooting and root cause analysis to improve asset reliability
  • Demonstrated initiative to learn new skills, improve work processes, and drive better business outcomes
  • Experience collaborating across functions to solve problems and create value
