Job description

I&C Test Engineer-Remote

System One is seeking a highly motivated I&C Test Engineer on a contract basis. In this role you will work with the Lead I&C Engineer to provide expertise and support to all Natrium testing activities. Responsibilities will include instrument and control system design, prototype instrumentation development and testing, and support of commissioning activities. The strongest candidates will also have experience in laboratory experimentation, designing first-of-a-kind test stands, and safe operation of specialized equipment under hazardous conditions.

12-month contract with possibility of extension.

Responsibilities
  1. Programming/commissioning/troubleshooting PLC and HMI across multiple platforms and control systems in a R&D environment.
  2. Develop control system specifications from process flow diagrams (PFDs) or process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  3. Support the Responsible Test Engineer during shakedown and testing of I&C systems in an R&D environment.
  4. Review and revise procedures to align with HMI implementation in consultation with system operators and designers.
  5. Evaluate commercially available control systems for cost, applicability, and scalability across the Natrium testing program.
  6. Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
  7. Demonstrate exemplary safety practices and foster a culture of safety in a testing environment.
  8. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
Key Qualifications and Skills
  1. B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience; advanced degree a plus.
  2. Experience with industrial instrumentation, automation, or robotics a plus.
  3. Experience in design and application of experimental hardware, instrumentation, and engineering laboratory or industry best practices.
  4. Experience with common laboratory or industrial data acquisition hardware and software, such as National Instruments or Siemens.
  5. Experience in the design of advanced control systems (e.g. SCADA/DAQ/PLC/DCS-based) including programming, configuration, HMI design, and interfacing with highly varied instrumentation and field devices.
  6. Experience with data acquisition and controls for complex engineering systems with many I/O signals from highly varied sensors and instruments.
  7. Field experience in start-up/commissioning, troubleshooting, diagnostics, testing, and calibration of electrical/I&C systems.
  8. Experience designing I&C systems for nuclear or high-temperature environments (>300 °C) a plus.
  9. Qualified electrical worker a plus.
  10. Ability to participate in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technicians with demonstrated results.
  11. Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker.
  12. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.
  13. Ability to handle projects that include multiple objectives and ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
  14. Excellent writing and communication skills.
  15. Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems and provide recommendations in a timely manner.
