Job summary

Vistra Energy in Texas seeks an Instrumentation & Control Technician to maintain the Luminant system instrumentation and control networks in a safe, reliable, and environmentally sound manner. You will work to ensure energy generation requirements are met with high standards of safety and efficiency.

The role involves calibrating and troubleshooting field instrumentation, supporting unit start-up/shut-down activities, and participating in pre/post job briefs.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED is required.
  • 1 year as I&C or 2 years related work experience are required.
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain instrumentation and control systems in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain plant instrumentation and equipment.
  • Enter work requests (WRs) and preventive requests (PRs) into MAXIMO.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on plant instrumentation.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Electrical, Purchasing and other support groups.
  • Learn to communicate LOTO requests to Operations.

Job Summary

To maintain the instrumentation and control systems to meet the specific energy generation requirements of the Luminant system in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally sound manner.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform work incorporating strict adherence to Safety procedures and best practices and continually observe for safe working practices.
  • Regularly develops and presents safety topics.
  • Develop an understanding of HPI tools through training opportunities and practice.
  • Actively participate in Pre/Post Job briefs.
  • Work with other technicians to perform routine and emergency maintenance and/or compliance activities on the plant instrumentation and control systems including weekends, holidays, and scheduled shift.
  • Cover Unit start-up and shut-down activities with assistance from other Technicians.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain power plant instrumentation systems and equipment.
  • Learn to enter WRs and PRs into Maximo.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of O&M and Capital projects.
  • Learn to communicate LOTO requests to Operations.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with Operations, Electrical, Purchasing, Warehouse personnel, other support groups and vendors.
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
  • High School education or GED equivalent required
  • One (1) year as I&C or two (2) years related work experience required
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills.
Key Metrics
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot low voltage electrical circuits.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to perform calibrations and maintenance of field instrumentation including transmitters (level, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.), control valves, valve positioners, thermocouples, etc.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the power plant processes (material handling, water side equipment, air side equipment, emission controls, turbine/generator, etc.)
  • Demonstrates specific knowledge and skills to perform job assignment
  • Demonstrates continual self-improvement in job skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how job assignment impacts other systems/units and uses this knowledge to maximize safety and minimize equipment problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and utilization of resources required to perform job, such as drawings, instruction books, calibration data sheets, MAXIMO, etc.
  • Proficient computer skills
