Job summary

FACETS is seeking a part-time Hypothermia Program Facilitator to support unsheltered guests at venues in Fairfax and Falls Church, VA. You will work with FACETS Case Managers to provide case management, run life-skills groups, and connect guests to services while ensuring a safe, welcoming environment.

Shifts run 4:00 PM–12:00 AM and 11:30 PM–7:30 AM during the season (11/27/2026–3/31/2027) with training beforehand.

Qualifications

  • Experience serving homeless populations preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
  • Criminal, CPS, and DMV background checks required.
  • Familiarity with Fairfax County services is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Establish contact and build rapport with homeless individuals at hypothermia venues.
  • Provide emergency supports such as food, clothing, and hygiene supplies.
  • Plan and coordinate life skills groups for hypothermia guests.
  • De-escalate conflicts and handle medical/behavioral challenges.
  • Support program operations and guide volunteers during shifts.
  • Coordinate with FACETS staff, county and law enforcement.
  • Maintain venue logs with regular walk-throughs.
  • Represent FACETS in the community and participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in staff trainings and support program evaluation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION:Hypothermia Program Facilitator

REPORTS TO:Residential Coordinator

CATEGORY:Part-Time/NON-EXEMPT/Temporary

LOCATION:In-Person, Fairfax & Falls Church Virginia

Position Summary:

Hypo facilitators would work part-time at assigned hypothermia venues across Fairfax and Falls Church to maintain a safe environment and ensure that the unsheltered homeless have a safe place to stay and a warm meal. The Program Facilitators will assist FACETS Case Managers with providing case management services, leading life skills groups, and connecting guests to services. Hypothermia shifts are 4:00 PM-12AM and 11:30 PM – 7:30 AM. Hypothermia season starts on 11/27/2026 and ends on 3/31/2027 with training in October and November before the season starts.

We meet their emergency needs through our wrap around services and community partnerships, and help individuals and families experience safe and stable housing after years of uncertainty and instability. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establishes contact and builds rapport with homeless individuals at the hypothermia venues.
  • Engages guests through the provision of emergency supports such as food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and similar support.
  • Plans and coordinates life skills groups for hypothermia guests.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in dealing with guests’ disputes, de-escalation as well as medical and behavioral challenges.
  • Supports Hypothermia and Outreach Program operations.
  • Guides community volunteers during scheduled shift at hypothermia venue.
  • Works with onsite FACETS staff, County employees, and law enforcement staff.
  • Conducts regular walk-through of venue and ensures accurate record keeping in venue logbook.
  • Maintains an attitude of respect for the faith community venue.
  • Participates in program staff meetings to share ideas and plans; works cooperatively with staff to meet FACETS goals.
  • Participates in in-service training for staff development. Actively supports FACETS’ mission-oriented outcome evaluation and outcome management.
  • Represents FACETS in the community, in accordance with Agency goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
  • 8-hour shift.
  • Evening shift.
  • Holidays.
  • Monday to Friday.
  • Night shift.
  • On call.
  • Overnight shift.
  • Weekend availability.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • The successful candidates must possess experience and knowledge of the unique needs of homeless men and women including the “chronically” homeless.
  • Ability to maintain ethical boundaries as well as confidentiality of clients and accurate records is required.
  • The candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, good driving record, and personal car insurance.
  • The candidate must be able to drive 15 passenger van.
  • Criminal, CPS, DMV background checks required.
  • Knowledge of services and programs available in Fairfax County a significant plus.
  • Patience, flexibility, persistence, and concern for the welfare and potential rehabilitation of each homeless individual is highly required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Drivers license and ability to drive a 15 seat vehicle.
Salary Range:
  • $20 per hour.
