Job summary

Fluidstack is seeking an experienced data center network engineer in Austin to own end-to-end physical implementation of hyperscale networks. You will design fiber plant architectures, plan transceivers, and drive structured cabling across multiple sites.

You will collaborate with CSA, MEP, and construction teams, read construction drawings, and ensure configurations align with high-density fiber deployments and 400G/800G optics."

Qualifications

• Designed hyperscale or cloud-provider data center networks (1000+ racks, 100K+ fiber strands).
• Expert in structured cabling systems (Corning, Panduit, CommScope) and MPO/MTP ecosystems.
• Knowledge of optical standards (IEEE 802.3, OIF) and transceiver technologies (400G/800G DR4, FR4, LR4, SR8).
• Knowledge of fiber loss budgets, dispersion, and testing methodologies (OTDR, IL, polarity verification).
• Ability to integrate designs into DCIM tools (NetBox, Remedy, or equivalents).
• Bonus: RCDD certification, Coherent DCI, multi-generation optics roadmapping.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end physical implementation of the data center network: fiber plant architecture, transceiver planning, and structured cabling integration for hyperscale sites.
• Collaborate with CSA, MEP, and construction teams on power, cooling, space, pathways, cabinets, and racks, and develop, read, and interpret construction drawings in Bluebeam, ACC, and Procore.
• Break down DCN logical port maps into physical cross-connect and patching schedules, and automate port-to-fiber mapping at 100K+ ports per site.
• Define cassette types (MTP/MPO Base-8/12/16), trunk counts, and structured cabling hierarchy, and model fiber utilization and overbuild for two to three hardware generations.
• Select optics (400G/800G DR4, FR4, LR4, SR8) by reach and loss budget, validate interoperability across vendors and generations, and maintain loss-budget and margin models.
• Own the ICT Basis of Design, SOPs, and Division 26/27/28/33 master specifications, and integrate with DCIM to track strands, ports, and patching.
