Job Description - Hyperbaric Technologist (250904)

Our system features a 473-bed academic medical center, outpatient clinics, a psychiatric program, home care, a research institute, and more. Summary

We are seeking a Hyperbaric Technologist for our Hyperbaric Chamber, working weekdays, on-call nights, and weekends. Under general direction, you will support medical treatments in a Hyperbaric Chamber and provide patient care at the EMT level.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the safe mechanical operation of the hyperbaric chamber by evaluating, testing, and documenting equipment and supplies.
  2. Master the use of U.S. Navy Dive Tables and ensure safety during dives.
  3. Assist with routine maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber and related devices.
  4. Operate and maintain the mono-place hyperbaric chamber.
  5. Use EPIC and other patient charting systems; maintain chamber logs.
  6. Perform transcutaneous oxygen measurements during treatments.
  7. Provide basic wound care and dressing changes.
  8. Determine safe items to bring into the chamber.
  9. Educate respiratory therapists on hyperbaric conditions and oxygen delivery devices.
  10. Perform minor repairs on equipment.
  11. Ensure maintenance standards are met; develop maintenance plans where standards are lacking.
  12. Order and arrange for supplies and repairs.
  13. Pressurize, monitor, and depressurize chambers safely.
  14. Maintain logs according to PVHO standards.
  15. Assemble oxygen delivery equipment.
  16. Operate backup systems and fire suppression systems.
  17. Prepare chambers for treatment, ensure equipment readiness, and monitor safety.
  18. Identify and respond to safety issues and document incidents.
  19. Ensure proper emergency orientation for staff.
  20. Assist with hyperbaric-specific cleaning procedures.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Hyperbaric Technology training program, or
  • Respiratory Therapist, EMT-B, or EMT-P certification, with an approved combination of education and experience.

Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree, two years of experience with hyperbaric chambers, one year on a BLS ambulance, and diving experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include current AHA BLS certification.

Required certifications include Certified Hyperbaric Technologist, EMT-B, EMT-P, or Respiratory Therapist.
