OSF HealthCare seeks a Hyperbaric Technician to oversee safety as Hyperbaric Safety Director and administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider.

You will manage safe operation of hyperbaric chambers, perform day-to-day maintenance, and serve as point person for material assessments around the chambers. This is an hourly, full-time role based in Rockford, IL.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required with MA training or equivalence.
  • 1 year acute clinical experience required.
  • Must complete hyperbaric medicine training within 30 days of hire.
  • BLS/CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee hyperbaric safety as Safety Director and administer therapy as prescribed.
  • Ensure safe operation of hyperbaric chamber(s) and related systems.
  • Maintain chamber equipment and assess materials for use around chambers.

Expected pay for this position is $21.93 - $25.80/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Hyperbaric Technician will act as the Hyperbaric Safety Director and administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider. The Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient. The Hyperbaric Technician is also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems and serves as the point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for use in and around hyperbaric chambers.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School Diploma/ GED AND must have completed a Medical Assistant training program OR Medical Assistant Training Program equivalency: at least 6 months experience in Certified Medical Assistant role OR proof of completion of on-the-job training/education program for certified medical assisting in another healthcare organization.
  • Completion of an introductory hyperbaric medicine training course within 30 days of hire. The course must be approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT), Department of Defense (DoD), American College of Hyperbaric Medicine (ACHM), or the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). Completion of Introductory Wound Care Course within 90 days of hire that is recognized or accredited by a national wound care organization, such as the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN), National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO), or an equivalent nationally recognized wound care accrediting body.
  • Experience: 1-year acute clinical experience
  • Licensure/ Certification: Current Certification by one of the following approved certifying agencies: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), earning Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Allied Health (AAH), earning Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), earning a National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) credential National HealthCare Association (NHA), earning Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), earning a Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) credential. Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree in a healthcare-related field preferred. Additional education or continuing education in wound care, hyperbaric medicine, emergency medicine, or ambulatory care preferred. Completion of a nationally recognized wound care or hyperbaric medicine educational program preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in hyperbaric medicine, wound care, emergency services, ambulatory care, surgical services, or a related clinical setting. Previous experience operating and maintaining monoplace or multiplace hyperbaric chambers. Experience assisting with wound assessments, dressing changes, debridement support, and advanced wound care therapies. Completion of a nationally recognized wound care education program accredited or endorsed by organizations such as the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN), National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO), or equivalent. Current or prior certification as a: Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN) Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist (CHWS) Wound Care Certified (WCC) or other nationally recognized wound care credential Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred. Experience with electronic medical records (Epic preferred) and clinical documentation. Demonstrated knowledge of hyperbaric safety standards, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements, including Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, therapists, and ancillary staff.
  • Experience supporting quality improvement, patient education, and process standardization initiatives.
  • Licensure/ Certification: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Wound Care Certified (WCC) credential through the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO). Ostomy Management Specialist (OMS) or other nationally recognized wound and ostomy certification. Certification as a Hyperbaric Safety Director (CHSD) or equivalent hyperbaric safety training. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Instructor, Preceptor, or other recognized clinical education credential preferred. Additional nationally recognized certifications related to wound care, hyperbaric medicine, vascular care, diabetic limb preservation, or ambulatory procedural services. Completion of advanced continuing education in hyperbaric medicine, wound management, or patient safety.
  • Other Skills/ Knowledge: Knowledge of hyperbaric medicine and wound care principles. Experience with advanced wound care therapies, including NPWT, skin substitutes, compression, and offloading. Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and elevate concerns appropriately. Familiarity with hyperbaric safety standards, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements. Experience in an outpatient, procedural, or hospital-based clinical setting. Proficiency with electronic medical records (Epic preferred). Strong communication, organizational, and patient education skills. Commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and quality improvement.
