Job summary

Mid Atlantic Dental Partners is seeking a friendly Hygiene assistant to support dentists during patient care and ensure excellent chair-side service. You will collaborate with team members to maintain smooth patient flow, review health histories, and help create a comfortable, positive experience in the chair.

The role emphasizes four-handed dentistry, radiograph capture, sterilization, chart documentation, and patient education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current radiography certification is required.
• Active dental assistant license as per state requirements.
• CPR/BLS certification is preferred.
• Nitrous oxide/Oxygen analgesia certification preferred or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service with chair-side manners and teamwork.
• Assist dentist/hygienist with procedures and maintain patient flow.
• Review patient charts and health history; obtain patient consents before treatment.
• Perform four-handed dentistry tasks: temporary crowns, rubber dam, restorations, seating prosthodontics, polishing, sealants.
• Take and mount radiographs and intra-oral photos.
• Sterilize and prepare equipment and operatory before/after appointments.
• Track lab cases and monitor/order dental supplies.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and follow OSHA safety policies; multi-task calmly.
• Educate patients and address questions to improve comfort.
• Assist administrative team with scheduling and referrals.
• Demonstrate computer proficiency and learn new programs.

Overview

Responsibilities

Skills/ Abilities

• Provide exceptional customer service, with excellent chair-side manner, while demonstrating teamwork
• Assist the doctor and/or hygienist(s), with dental procedures maintain excellent patient service, integrity, flow.
• Review patient charts prior to doctor arrival, document appropriate patient information and health history during the exam and treatment, ensure all patient consents are completed prior to treatment.
• Four Handed Dentistry- fabricate temporary crowns, place rubber dam, place amalgam and composite restorations, assist with seating permanent/removable prosthodontics, coronal polishing, sealant placement.
• Ability to take, develop and “mount” accurate, high quality radiographs/intra-oral photos.
• Clean, sterilize and prepare the equipment and operatory, prior to and after a patient’s appointment.
• Track the incoming and outgoing lab cases, monitor and order dental supplies.
• Maintain patient confidentiality through HIPAA compliance, follow safety policies and procedures through OSHA compliance and BBP (Blood-borne Pathogens) Ability to multi-task and remain calm in a rapidly changing environment.
• Assist in educating the patients and address their questions and/or concerns to help them feel more comfortable.
• Assist the business administrative team in scheduling patients and submitting referrals as clinically necessary.
• Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new programs.

Qualifications

Education/Certification(s)

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required
• Current radiography certification required.
• Active Dental Assistant/ CDA/ EFDA/ EDDA/ QDA license, as required by state
• Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR- BLS) preferred
• Current certification to monitor Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Analgesia preferredas required by state, or ability to become certified.
