Job summary

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) invites applications for a Research Specialist to support vertical hydroponics, greenhouse, and field studies within CAFST. The role focuses on design, implementation, and maintenance of experiments, data collection, and analysis to advance sustainable urban agriculture and efficient crop production.

The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, graduate students, and staff, handling hydroponic infrastructure, environmental controls, and reporting

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to conduct basic biochemical assays related to plant nutrition
• Knowledge of plant production systems and greenhouse crop production
• Experience in data collection, statistical analysis, and record keeping
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment
• Ability to perform physical tasks in greenhouse/hydroponic settings

Responsibilities

• Establish, maintain, and monitor vertical hydroponic and greenhouse field experiments
• Prepare nutrient solutions and manage irrigation for hydroponic production
• Support trials evaluating crop varieties, nutrient regimens, lighting and environmental controls
• Record and manage research data using spreadsheets or lab management systems
• Assist with planting, transplanting, harvesting and crop maintenance
• Collect growth and yield data and other production metrics
• Prepare basic statistical summaries and reports for publications or grants

Education

Master's degree in Horticulture/Plant Science/Plant Pathology/Environmental Science/Agronomy or related field
