Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Green Valley, AZ is hiring a Hydromet Diagnostic Mechanic I to diagnose, maintain and repair heavy equipment at our Sierrita operations. You will perform mechanical repairs on haul trucks, loaders, dozers and other equipment, supervise when needed, and mentor junior staff while adhering to safety standards and work orders.

This role may require non‑standard shifts in a 24/7 operation. Strong diagnostic skills and ability to prioritize repairs will help keep production on

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or related field.
• Completed academic and practical competencies required (LOP if applicable).
• Ability to read blueprints and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, maintain and repair heavy equipment (haul trucks, loaders, dozers, etc.).
• Remove, repair and install transmissions, engines, pumps and other components.
• Perform mechanical lubrication and maintenance on hydraulic and powertrain systems.
• Prioritize repairs and manage work orders.
• Operate mobile equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks.
• Train and mentor other employees.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Will Do

• Perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as, but not limited to: Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.
• Perform the removal, repair and installation of transmissions, engines, breaks, differentials, pumps, motors, torque convertors, final drives and other heavy equipment systems or components.
• Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on machine systems such as: hydraulic, power train and engines.
• Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining work orders and performing work area inspections.
• Operate mobile equipment such as: Overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks.
• Perform welding such as: Carbon arc, Plasma, Mig, Tig, and Stick.
• Perform as a Fill-in Supervisor as required.
• Train and mentor other employees.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
• HEM Diagnostic Mechanic I: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
• Ability to prioritize repairs and possess excellent decision‑making skills
• Ability to troubleshoot machine systems
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with others
• Ability to read and use blueprints

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $27.00 - $36.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job‑related factors.
