Job summary

City of Tacoma's Tacoma Power Generation Section is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Power Systems Engineer or Power Systems Engineer, PE) to join their team. This role provides mechanical engineering services for hydroelectric and fisheries facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 4 years of professional level engineering experience in a power utility.
  • Washington State Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Washington State Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Participate on teams involved with the design, fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of fish facilities and hydropower plants.
  • Prepare, review, and stamp calculations, drawings, and reports for mechanical systems.
  • Prepare specifications to procure and install mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Support evaluation, selection, procurement, installation, testing, and acceptance of project activities and equipment.
  • Represent the City at shop inspections and factory acceptance tests for mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate with contractors and hydro project staff to repair and upgrade systems and equipment.
  • Plan and direct mechanical equipment installation, disassembly, reassembly, and alignment.
  • Provide operations, maintenance, and asset management recommendations for mechanical systems.
  • Power plant equipment includes generators, hydro turbines, balance-of-plant systems, valves, gates, cranes, and hoists; fisheries equipment includes motors, pumps, piping, and water-treatment systems.
