Join Our Team as a HYCO Plant Relief Operator at MATHESON

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill the HYCO Plant Relief Operator position at MATHESON. This introductory role involves learning the basics of hydrogen plant operations, including monitoring outside shift logs, duties, and supporting operator shift vacations. Flexibility to cover day, night, and weekend shifts with at least two weeks' notice is essential.

This position offers growth potential into a regular Operations Technician role, depending on the candidate's aptitude, work ethic, and ability to contribute to safety, performance, and reliability. During periods of minimal or no vacation coverage, the role involves working with the operations and maintenance teams on daily tasks. Expect approximately 40 hours per week, subject to shift coverage needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Acquire knowledge to operate and maintain the steam methane reformer process and related equipment, understanding water chemistry to ensure proper operations.
• Monitor plant processes and equipment, conduct rounds, complete logs, perform water sampling, and maintain cleanliness.
• Prioritize safety by participating in meetings, maintaining a clean work area, and eliminating hazards.
• Develop skills to interpret Piping & Instrument Drawings, aiding in troubleshooting system issues.
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, evaluate equipment performance, and keep accurate records.
• Follow safety policies, including work permits, Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures, and energy isolation protocols.
• Participate in the maintenance and updating of plant equipment and work instructions.
• Communicate effectively with team members, vendors, safety, and management teams.
• Assist in starting and stopping plant operations safely, based on operational needs.

Qualifications & Skills

• Basic math skills, including algebra, fractions, percentages, and unit conversions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with company-specific software.
• Strong interpersonal skills to support team collaboration.
• Understanding of electrical hazards and safety practices.
• Mechanical aptitude and physical ability to perform duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working at heights up to 150 feet.
• Ability to operate forklifts and man-lifts per company policy is preferred.
