Job summary

Air Products in Martinez, California, seeks a process engineer to provide Plant Process Engineering support for two large-scale hydrogen plants, with occasional support to other HyCO facilities in the western US and Canada.

The role involves monitoring plant performance, troubleshooting issues, supporting safety and environmental performance, and ensuring compliance with MOC procedures while driving productivity projects to improve reliability, efficiency, and capacity.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering strongly preferred; other disciplines will be considered based on experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in an engineering role; operations engineering support and/or troubleshooting experience beneficial.
  • Experience with large scale hydrogen/syngas production or other high temperature process gas facilities is desired.
  • Project development and execution experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of process engineering disciplines such as process controls, process safety and equipment/plant design.
  • Ability to make safe and balanced decisions weighing operability, reliability, capital costs, and operating costs.
  • Ability to foster an environment of open communication, innovation, trust, personal and professional growth.
  • Some travel is required, estimated at 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Define work scope, generate project requests, work orders, MOC’s, etc. to execute projects.
  • Prepare for and support hydrogen plant turnarounds, including catalyst changes.
  • Plant efficiency tracking and analysis to ensure optimal operation.
  • Assist in resolving significant reliability and maintenance issues as they arise.
  • Provide support to other HyCO facilities within the US and Canada when opportunities arise.

Reimagine What’s Possible Air Products is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team in Martinez, California. The successful candidate will provide process engineering support as part of an operations organization that pursues outstanding performance for the Air Products hydrogen plants in Martinez. This engineer will also provide occasional support to other HyCO plants in California and the western region of North America.

Responsibilities
  • Primary contact for Plant Process Engineering support of 2 large-scale hydrogen plants.
  • Monitor and/or review their performance (e.g., efficiency, reliability) and proactively identify and troubleshoot operating issues.
  • Support for plant safety, health, and environmental performance.
  • Responsibilities include adherence to management of change (MOC) procedures, execution of project hazard reviews, engineering support for environmental compliance, and regular participation in safety programs and training.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement productivity projects that improve reliability, efficiency, costs, and/or capacity.
  • Define work scope, generate project requests, work orders, MOC’s, etc. as required to execute these projects.
  • Prepare for and support efforts during hydrogen plant turnarounds, including project execution, catalyst changeouts, and investigation of inspection discoveries.
  • A key area of responsibility is plant efficiency tracking and control, including analysis of plant efficiency and performance, ensuring the plants operate optimally.
  • Assist in the resolution of significant reliability and maintenance issues involving unusual corrosion, steam quality concerns, fouling of heat transfer surfaces, premature catalyst degradation, and other chronic equipment and performance problems as they arise.
  • As opportunities arise, the individual will be requested to provide support to other HyCO facilities within the US and Canada.
Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering strongly preferred; other disciplines will be considered based on experience.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in an engineering role (or roles); operations engineering support and/or operations experience with troubleshooting experience are beneficial.
  • Experience with large scale hydrogen/syngas production or other high temperature process gas facilities is desired.
  • Project development and execution experience is a plus.
  • A basic understanding of process engineering related disciplines such as process controls, process safety and equipment/plant design.
  • The ability to make safe and balanced decisions weighing operability, reliability, capital costs, and operating costs.
  • The ability to foster an environment of open communication, innovation, trust, personal, and professional growth.
  • Experience using Aspen Plus and MS Office tools (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.) is preferred.
  • Some travel is required, estimated at 10%.
  • In California, the anticipated pay range is $110,050 -$145,500 plus bonus.
  • Its important to note that individual compensations packages are determined based on a multitude of factors, including but not limited to experience and qualifications
