Job summary

Freese and Nichols, Inc. in Houston, TX is seeking a highly motivated Heavy Civil Design Engineer to lead water resources projects as a client-facing project manager.

The position emphasizes dams and levees, with responsibilities for analysis, design, reports, and construction documents, plus supervision of engineers and technicians. You will mentor staff, manage client communications, and contribute to proposals and business development across multiple states.

Qualifications

• 5+ Years of experience in dams, levees, and hydraulic structures.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a project team and oversee quality.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Engineer and Project Manager for large complex projects.
• Direct and supervise studies, investigations and designs with task delegation.
• Maintain effective communications with client, staff, and regulators.
• Supervise multi-discipline team of engineers, CAD staff, designers, drafters, and scientists.
• Keep the project team informed of activities and resolve issues promptly.
• Evaluate design decisions for objectivity, schedule and budget impact.
• Prepare reports and recommendations for project conclusions.
• Assist in construction documents and monthly status reporting.
• Develop and maintain a quality control plan for engineering disciplines.
• Develop and maintain the project schedule.
• Stay current with regulations and technology applications.
• Lead business development activities including proposals and client visits.
