Job summary

University of Michigan in Ann Arbor seeks a Tax Advisor to join the Tax Compliance and Planning Office. The role supports tax compliance, including filing returns and advising on tax risks across university entities.

You will collaborate with the tax team and stakeholders to implement best practices, uphold compliance, and maintain proper tax positions for affiliated entities and the university overall.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or accounting or an equivalent combination of education is required.
• A CPA certification or a master's degree in accounting or a related field is desired.
• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of individuals and units.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet pressing due dates.
• Excellent analytical and independent problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Research and keep current with the tax law and reporting responsibilities.
• Develop 'best practices', including policies and tool kits in managing resulting tax risks.
• Communicate with stakeholders, including schools, colleges and units as well as with legal and tax representatives, e.g., with the investment firms, taxing agencies, and institutional peers.
• Prepare and review various federal, state and international tax returns and forms for multiple entities, including exempt organizations, partnerships, taxable corporations, charitable vehicles.
