Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Surety Underwriting Intern to support a Fortune 100 team at a major insurance provider. This 12-week summer internship offers hands-on experience with underwriting tasks, financial analysis, and collaborative problem solving in a hybrid environment.

You will review risks, process transactions, work with agents and internal partners, and develop skills across marketing to finance while contributing to client coverage decisions in multiple office locations nationwide.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Insurance, economics, or related field
• Completion of junior year is preferred
• Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience

Responsibilities

• Captures information from multiple sources, account to company guidelines to support underwriting
• Review individual risks for acceptability and handles those within authority, based on company guidelines and standards
• Completes assigned Underwriting transactions and tasks within established time and service standard
• Analysis and review of CPA and company financial statements and schedules. Input of those into the surety system
• Determines necessary steps to process work. Decides to accept, reject, or modify based on level of authority
• Consults with agents and internal partners. Recommends opportunities for business development and service capabilities
• Enters policies and runs reports for the underwriting file
• Works cooperatively and builds strong working relationships with territory, field, claims, sales, and other associates to share and gather information necessary to complete work
