Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago offers a hybrid Substation Physical Project Designer role, requiring in-office work 3 days per week. You will join a project team of engineers and designers delivering high and extra high voltage substation design and related drawings.

Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing General Arrangement, Equipment Plans, Grounding and Conduit details, plus field walkdowns, client interface, and mentoring of junior staff.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review substation drawings including General Arrangement and Equipment Plans.
• Lead field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities; interface with clients and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with codes and standards; apply Client's standards to the project.
• Provide guidance to designers and drafters; review calculations and design deliverables.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches and coordinate inputs from other disciplines.
• Meet budget and schedule requirements; guide project teams accordingly.
• Supervise assigned staff on technical matters and provide performance feedback.
