Job summary

ACLU in New York, NY or Washington, DC is seeking a Director of Strategy & Innovation in a hybrid role requiring in-office presence. The Director reports to the Chief Strategy Officer and collaborates with Strategy Office and cross-functional teams to set and implement strategic priorities under the 2030 Strategy, integrating policy, legal, and advocacy expertise.

Qualifications

• Strategic planning expertise for a complex organization and alignment of policy, political, and communications strategies
• Facilitation practice to build consensus and guide senior discussions
• Exceptional organizational, planning and project management skills for large, cross-functional programs
• Familiarity with civil rights and civil liberties issues and related advocacy fields
• Experience using quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication for senior audiences
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment
• Collaborative leadership with sound judgment and initiative

Responsibilities

• Architect and author cohesive, impactful strategies drawing on internal expertise, research, data, and landscape analysis
• Facilitate strategic planning sessions with Senior Leadership and subject matter experts
• Track progress with evidence-driven evaluation and learning insights to inform decisions
• Present recommendations to the executive team and board of directors
• Incubate and advance bold ideas that progress civil rights and scalability of pilots
• Lead large, cross-functional initiatives to unlock opportunities and drive efficiencies
• Develop and adopt standardized strategic frameworks, tools, and processes
• Create internal communications and champion change management to promote understanding of strategies and decisions
