Job summary

The Division of Legal Services (DLS) seeks a Staff Attorney to join the Southwest Regional Litigation team in Joplin, MO. You will advise DSS programs, handle juvenile and civil litigation, and promote permanency outcomes for children and families.

This role offers hybrid work with in‑office onboarding and potential remote days, a challenging courtroom docket, and opportunities to collaborate with statewide colleagues while delivering meaningful public service.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution and good standing in Missouri Bar.
• Competent research and writing skills required.
• Experience in litigation; background in juvenile, family, and administrative law preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Represent DSS in juvenile court, administrative hearings, and other proceedings.
• Manage civil litigation related to child welfare matters, including motions, hearings, negotiations, and trial prep.
• Provide legal advice to DSS and its divisions on a wide range of issues.
