Job summary

ATCS, Inc. seeks a Senior Roadway Engineer to join our Virginia transportation team in Herndon. This hybrid role offers involvement on high-profile VDOT and municipal roadway projects and leadership in design practice.

The candidate will mentor staff, contribute to proposals, and support business development while delivering quality roadway designs across Virginia. A PE and Virginia licensure commitment are preferred, with ORD/Civil 3D skills highly valued.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
6+ years roadway design experience, preferably in Virginia.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; in-state licensure commitment.

Responsibilities

Lead planning, design, and delivery of roadway infrastructure projects across Virginia.
Produce roadway design plans: geometry, alignments, superelevation, sections, grading for VDOT/municipal projects.
Prepare and review construction plan sets, drainage layouts, MOT/TMP plans, signing and pavement marking plans.
Apply VDOT standards and IIM/LAP requirements to ensure compliance on state/federal projects.
Coordinate with subconsultants and multidisciplinary teams; manage schedules and budgets.
Interface with clients during design reviews, public hearings, and field inspections.
Mentor junior engineers and designers; coordinate with contractors and utilities.
