Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to design and develop core platform services for insurance rating, eligibility, and product data systems. You will provide technical leadership for applications powering AmFam’s sales platforms and internal rate engines, delivering high‑quality code.

This hybrid role requires collaboration across teams and travel up to 10%. The position offers a compensations range and relocation support, reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering.

Qualifications

• 5+ years AWS-backed Java software development experience building out Spring Boot, Restful API apps, Python, SQL…
• AI proficiency with tools such as MS Copilot, Claude Code…
• Insurance industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze high level system specifications, requirements, and use cases.
• Convert information into low level specifications and design plans.
• Identify system dependencies and impacts.
• Provide documentation for design decisions, estimates, code modules, and performance metrics.
• Define and participate in testing (unit, system integration).
• Prepare, lead and/or participate in development walkthroughs.
• Collaborate on data usage, system flow, and process improvements.
• Ensure software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security.
