Job summary

Lynker Corporation seeks a Scientific Developer for UFS In-Core Data Assimilation to advance in-core DA capabilities and next-generation forecasting. The role collaborates with software engineers, scientists, and DA specialists to extend coupling, improve regression testing, and enable JEDI/NUOPC workflows in a high-performance HPC environment.

The ideal candidate brings strong Fortran/C/Python skills, experience with ESMF/NUOPC, MPI, and modern software practices, and is comfortable working in

Qualifications

• Background in CS/SE/met or related field with numerical modeling experience.
• Experience with Earth system modeling frameworks and infrastructure (ESMF/NUOPC preferred).
• Proficiency in Fortran and/or C, plus Python; C++ is a plus.
• Experience in Linux environments, shell scripting, and automation.
• Familiarity with HPC, MPI, and job schedulers (SLURM/PBS).
• Familiarity with JEDI/DA and data assimilation concepts a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of UFS Weather Model infrastructure features.
• Implement state management, rewind capabilities and NUOPC coupling extensions.
• Develop automated tests for new state management and regression checks.
• Collaborate with DA teams to enable UFS/JEDI builds with in-core DA capabilities.
• Explore Incremental Analysis Updates (IAU) and AI-assisted coding approaches.
• Adopt Git-based workflows, CI, unit testing, and Agile/DevOps practices.
• Debug complex model infrastructure and integration issues.
• Document code and modeling workflows for the NWS and Lynker teams.
