Job summary

Massachusetts Department of Transportation seeks a Civil Engineer II to prepare and review ROW plans for state highway projects, inspect field conditions, and coordinate with design consultants to resolve issues.

Applicants should have three years of civil engineering experience (or substitutions listed) and may be eligible for a signing bonus. A hybrid work schedule is possible; the position is full-time with day shift.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) civil engineering experience in areas such as construction, survey, design, transportation, hydraulics, structural, or related fields.
• At least one year of professional capacity experience is required.
• Substitutions: Associate’s degree substituted for up to one year; Bachelor’s for up to two years; Graduate degree may substitute for all required experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform ROW Plan reviews for State Highway roadway and bridge projects, including major/complex projects with unique requirements.
• Perform geometric calculations as required.
• Conduct site visits to examine field conditions and document issues with plans/design; lead site visits when supervisor unavailable.
• Perform peer reviews of comments from others; lead peer reviews when supervisor unavailable.
• Coordinate comment resolution meetings with design consultants to clarify review comments and expedite revisions.
• Advise Plan Review Supervisor on projects with no anticipated ROW acquisitions.
