Job summary

The University of Michigan Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) seeks a Research Information Security Manager to support the RISO program, ensuring compliance with CUI and NISP requirements across sponsored projects.

The role collaborates with ORSP, IIA, ITS, ARC, and schools to develop security plans, maintain reviews, provide training, and keep security records up to date; hybrid work with occasional in-person events is available.

Qualifications

• Have or qualify for and maintain U.S. classified security clearance.
• Knowledge of information security policies, controls, and practices.
• Ability to interpret complex statutes, regulations, and contracts.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience navigating web-based security systems.
• Ability to handle highly sensitive information with sound judgment.
• Strong MS Office and Google Workspace skills.
• Ability to work independently and multitask in a high-volume environment.
• Commitment to integrity and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Support the RISO program and ensure compliance with CUI/NISP requirements.
• Collaborate with ORSP, IIA, ITS, ARC, and Schools/Colleges on security plans.
• Assist ORSP project reps to clarify sponsor requirements and clauses.
• Develop and manage security plans with PIs and unit IT.
• Maintain records of contract security reviews and documentation.
• Serve as a resource and liaison for RISO and security compliance needs.
• Monitor sponsored programs for continued compliance with security requirements.
• Provide CUI training to UM personnel.
• Keep training and policies current with evolving security requirements.
• Travel to security conferences and meetings as needed.
