Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) is seeking a Research Engineer II to join our Minneapolis team. You will lead research projects on building energy efficiency, develop stock models, and contribute to field studies and energy evaluations for commercial and residential buildings.

The role emphasizes building stock modeling, data analysis, and proposal development, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating across departments. Hybrid work with 1-2 days in the Minneapolis office is offered.

Qualifications

• PhD/MS/BS in mechanical engineering or closely related field with related experience.
• Experience with building stock modeling tools and large datasets.
• Strong analytical and statistical skills; ability to communicate findings.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal investigator and technical lead on research projects related to commercial buildings.
• Develop project budgets, staffing, and work scopes; monitor progress vs budget.
• Lead proposal ideation and development, and author technical reports.
• Apply building science to evaluate energy performance, IAQ, and envelope durability.
• Coordinate researchers, technicians, and interns; conduct literature reviews.
• Maintain building and energy system models; support field studies and data analysis.
• Mentor staff; support HR in attracting diverse candidates and conducting reviews.
