Job summary

VHB is seeking a Renewable Energy Civil Engineer to join our Mid-Atlantic Energy Evolution Practice in the Richmond, VA/Williamsburg/WVirginia Beach area. You will lead civil site development for utility-scale solar and battery storage, mentoring junior staff and coordinating across engineering, planning, and environmental teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant energy civil engineering or land development experience.
• Experience with site grading, stormwater management, and erosion/sediment control design.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to develop civil engineering plans, specs, and supporting documents for energy infrastructure and land development projects.
• Mentor and support junior staff with technical guidance and quality oversight.
• Support site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control design.
• Prepare engineering drawings and models using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Conduct field visits to document conditions and collect measurements.
• Evaluate field data and calculations to inform design decisions.
• Assist with land development approvals and permitting documentation.
• Prepare technical reports and design calculations for regulatory review.
• Coordinate across disciplines to integrate civil design with environmental considerations.
