Job summary

First American is seeking a Commercial Title Officer / Commercial Underwriter to support a broad range of national commercial real estate transactions. Based in Houston, TX, the role offers a hybrid work environment for local candidates and remote options for those outside the area.

You will analyze title risk, review documentation, issue underwriting guidance, and partner with customers and internal teams to deliver results.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial title and/or underwriting experience, including experience with complex commercial transactions.
• Strong understanding of commercial real estate law, title insurance, and settlement practices and procedures.
• Experience underwriting commercial deals and high-liability transactions preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk and develop practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review complete title searches for commercial transactions ranging from single-site properties to complex national portfolios.
• Analyze records including liens, judgments, easements, surveys, legal descriptions, and vesting documents to determine ownership and risks.
• Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization for title insurance commitments, endorsements, guarantees, and policies.
• Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines to evaluate and underwrite title risk.
• Price commitments, endorsements, policies, and guarantees using standard fee schedules.
• Review and approve transaction documentation including deeds and operating agreements.
• Collaborate with attorneys, customers, lenders, and internal partners to resolve complex title matters and closings.
