Job summary

IBM Research is seeking a Qubit Characterization Engineer to advance superconducting qubits in Yorktown Heights, NY. You will characterize devices using cryogenic measurements, spectroscopy, and coherence metrics, and help translate results into hardware improvements.

You will design and execute RF/microwave experiments with dilution refrigerators, analyze data, and work closely with fabrication and design teams to improve qubit yield and performance.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in experimental quantum hardware, microwave/RF measurements, or cryogenic systems.
• Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition, and analysis; ability to troubleshoot complex experimental systems.

Responsibilities

• Characterize superconducting qubits and devices via cryogenic measurements (coherence, relaxation, spectroscopy, two-qubit gate performance).
• Develop and execute measurement experiments using RF/microwave instrumentation, dilution refrigerators, and data-acquisition systems; analyze data for device/process limitations.
• Collaborate with fabrication, design, and software teams to diagnose performance issues and translate results into hardware improvements.
