Job summary

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is hiring a Public Participation Specialist (Analyst II) in the Office of Environmental Equity’s Southern California region to provide public outreach and engagement services to California communities.

The selected candidate will facilitate communication between the public and DTSC and work with diverse communities on environmental cleanup projects, ensuring meaningful participation in decision-making processes.

Qualifications

• Experience in program administration and public engagement.
• Proven ability to communicate clearly with diverse communities.
• Strong written communication skills for reports and outreach.
• Experience presenting to groups and stakeholders.
• Analytical thinking for issue resolution and data interpretation.
• Bilingual ability is a plus for community outreach.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for Public Outreach and Engagement projects in Southern California.
• Provide support to DTSC core programs and OEE operations.
• Coordinate outreach with officials, Environmental Justice groups, NGOs, residents and businesses.
• Facilitate timely communication between the public and the Department.
• Participate in DTSC workgroups and OEE program activities.
• Contribute to program communications, project management, and outreach materials.
