West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Peer Recovery Support Specialist with the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI).

About the Opportunity

As a peer recovery support specialist, you will help drive progress with the multidisciplinary WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute's Innovation Center team. You will be part of an exciting collaborative effort at an RNI institution working towards innovative solutions to advance the science around optimizing brain health. Your efforts will support the management and advancement of a five-year-old Institute that has already performed several first-in-human clinical trials and experienced exponential growth in publications, grants, and intellectual property, all aimed at improving lives locally and globally.

This position will support the research and development missions of West Virginia University by coordinating and implementing operational tasks related to several research projects essential to the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

What you'll do:
  • Work actively with patients with Substance Use Disorders enrolled in RNI's research studies, linking participants to outpatient treatment.
  • Provide mentoring through life experience to individuals experiencing substance use problems.
  • Meet face-to-face with individuals and support persons, in person and/or by phone, at a frequency and format agreed upon, ideally at least once a week.
  • Assist research team in recruitment, monitoring, and follow-up of research participants.
  • Develop and monitor individualized wellness plans with patients.
  • Provide information to inform treatment decisions.
  • Link patients to resources such as education, housing, recovery supports, and health services.
  • Serve as a liaison to patients' formal and informal supports.
  • Maintain relationships with related staff and agencies to promote recovery awareness and coaching.
  • Receive ongoing supervision and training to provide high-quality recovery coaching services.
  • Assist patients in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, and other issues.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least one year of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Completion of state or nationally recognized Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification training (minimum 40 hours) in Ethics, Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, and Recovery/Wellness Planning. Additional CEUs can be documented if needed.
  • Criminal background checks required for DHHR WV CARES regulated area.
  • Bureau of Medical Services Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification or WVCBAPP certification within one year of employment.
  • Knowledge of treatment resources and 12-Step Fellowships.
  • Ability to comply with safety procedures and HIPAA regulations.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to analyze information, develop goals, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills: Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • WVCBAPP Peer Recovery Certification
  • Completion of CCAR Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department
  • Active participation in recovery for two or more years and attendance at community recovery meetings.
Requirements
  • Completion of Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification training (minimum 40 hours).
  • Criminal background check.
  • Certification within one year of employment.
