The role requires regular on-site presence in New Haven with occasional travel to Boca Raton and potential consideration as Staff or Principal Patent Specialist. You will lead IP education, draft and prosecute patent applications, coordinate with external counsel, and contribute to the strategy and management of the patent portfolio

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field (Physics, Mathematics, Computing Science, Electrical Engineering)
• Experience drafting and prosecuting patents before a Patent Office
• Proven patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management experience
• Registration as a US Patent Agent or Attorney is a plus
• Strong communication, negotiation, and multitasking abilities

Responsibilities

• Lead IP education initiatives for New Haven and Boca Raton teams
• Understand company technology and identify valuable innovations with R&D teams
• Draft and prosecute high-quality patent applications across diverse technical areas
• Coordinate with external patent counsel
• Build partnerships across technical teams
• Manage and improve D-Wave's patent portfolio
• Suggest IP process improvements
• Anticipate challenges and propose solutions
• Monitor quantum technologies and IP law developments to inform strategy
