Job summary

Carbon is seeking an optomechanical engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to design, build, and sustain advanced additive manufacturing hardware. You will integrate optical solutions, ensure production readiness, and partner with Manufacturing and Quality to scale systems.

You will collaborate across Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems teams, maintain subassemblies, and contribute to device alignment and metrology processes while growing within a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in opto-mechanical designs and sub-systems.
• Strong CAD skills with proper dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Experience specifying optical/optomechanical assemblies.
• Knowledge of GD&T, DFMEA, and SPC.
• Experience with optical alignment and metrology.
• Portfolio to be included with resume.
• Nice to have: scripting/UI for automated alignment tools; MATLAB/LabVIEW/Python.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and sustain opto-mechanical hardware and systems.
• Drive vendor engagement for optical solutions end-to-end.
• Lead new product introduction (NPI) with Manufacturing.
• Develop product variations and production-ready features.
• Document designs and support cross-functional teams.
