Job summary

Wilson Elser in New York City Midtown is seeking a Payroll Analyst for a flexible, hybrid role within a leading national law firm. You will oversee end-to-end payroll processing across multiple states, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution with internal teams and external vendors.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of multi-state payroll experience, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with Workday Payroll.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Three+ years payroll experience, multi-state.
• Knowledge of payroll practices for law firms including partner compensation.
• Proficient Excel and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Support end-to-end processing and review of multiple payrolls with different frequencies.
• Validate payroll inputs including hires, terminations, changes, time & attendance, bonuses, deductions.
• Perform pre-payroll and post-payroll audits for gross-to-net calculations and tax withholdings.
• Prepare payroll reports and payroll journal entries and reconcile distributions.
• Analyze discrepancies and coordinate corrective action with stakeholders.
• Review multi-state and local tax withholding and changes.
• Support quarterly/year-end payroll activities including W-2 validation.
• Assist with payroll system implementations and Workday transition.
• Identify improvements to controls and automate reporting.
• Respond to inquiries professionally and maintain confidentiality.
