Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) invites applications for a Mechanical Research and Development Engineer in its Advanced Design & Analysis Department. You will design, analyze, and test multi-material structures, including fiber-reinforced composites, and collaborate with senior engineers.

This hybrid role offers hands-on modeling in CAD and finite element analysis, plus MATLAB/Python scripting and experimental validation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • U.S. citizen eligible for government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical and computational modeling to evaluate system and structural behavior.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs and assemblies using mechanical CAD.
  • Conduct laboratory testing to validate analytical models.
  • Script in MATLAB/Python and support experimental testing.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and mentor junior staff.
  • Analyze interfaces and support full system integration; perform FEA on multi-material systems.
