Job summary

University of Chicago Press seeks a Manuscript Editor I to edit complex scholarly journal manuscripts in science and economics, using XML-based editing software to apply journal style to text, figures, tables, and math, and to write queries to authors.

You will move manuscripts through corrections, final approval, and ahead-of-print posting online, working closely with editors and production staff in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• College or university degree in a related field.
• 2–5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• Experience with scholarly journals preferred.
• Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style.

Responsibilities

• Copyedit scholarly journal manuscripts in science and economics.
• Ensure journal style across figures, tables, and math.
• Guide manuscripts through publication stages and QC.
• Review author proofs and approve final files.
