Toyota Research Institute (TRI) invites PhD research interns to join the Adaptive Behavior Systems team within the Human-Centered AI Division. The internship focuses on LLM-based human modeling and simulation in a collaborative environment.

This 12-week Summer 2027 internship offers hybrid in-office work in California, mentoring from TRI researchers, and opportunities to contribute to strategy and potential academic publications.

Qualifications

• PhD student in AI/ML, CS, computational social science, or a related field.
• Experience with LLMs and publication records in relevant topics.
• Proficiency in Python programming and PyTorch.
• Interest in human-centered research and strong collaboration abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Scope a research project aligned with TRI core efforts.
• Lead the technical plan with mentor feedback.
• Execute the project using TRI resources.
• Present approaches and findings in research meetings for stakeholders.
