Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation seeks an experienced Internal Auditor to apply standard audit approaches, observe and document operations, and develop audit programs to improve internal controls in our historic Virginia campus.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, 2+ years in internal audit, and professional certifications (CIA/CISA/CFE/CRMA or CPA) or active candidate status. Hybrid schedule in Williamsburg, VA; salary range $70k-$85k.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Two or more years’ experience in internal audit or the attest function.
• Candidate for CIA, CISA, CFE, CRMA or CPA.

Responsibilities

• Apply the standard audit approach in an effective and efficient manner, including observing, documenting, and evaluating operations, procedures, and internal controls.
• Assist in developing audit programs and perform audit procedures established in the audit program.
• Review transactions, documents, records, reports, and methods for accuracy and effectiveness.
• Prepare workpapers that record and summarize data; record all workpapers in the department’s workpaper software.
• Apply risk and control concepts to scenarios encountered and identify potential issues.
• Document and discuss with management the discovered weaknesses in accounting, operational procedures, and internal controls.
• Recommend actions to improve accounting and operational procedures and internal controls.
• Assist with preparing audit reports that summarize audit work performed, weaknesses discovered, and recommended actions.
• Assist more senior auditors in audits of operations and accounting processes.
• Assist with the monthly verification of outstanding audit issues and perform testing as appropriate.

Education
