Job summary

Penn State University is seeking an Instructional Designer in the Office of Learning Design within the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST). The role collaborates with faculty to design, revise, and deliver courses across modalities, applying learning science to create engaging and accessible experiences.

Responsibilities include integrating instructional media and technologies, supporting college initiatives, and guiding faculty development in teaching and technology

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree and 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience integrating AI and other emerging technology tools or strategies to enhance teaching, learning, and productivity.
  • Prior teaching experience, if available (in higher education or other settings).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to identify and consult on instructional goals and objectives, partnering on the design, development, and revision of learning structures, activities, and assessments to align teaching strategies and content with desired learning outcomes.
  • Apply learning science principles to create effective, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences.
  • Promote accessibility, inclusivity, and usability in instructional materials and learning environments.
  • Research and apply pedagogical practices, academic trends, and emerging educational technologies to support high-quality instructional design.
  • Provide non-academic program support by applying instructional design expertise to college initiatives such as career development, recruiting, experiential learning, digital badging, and emerging technology projects.
  • Develop and integrate instructional media and technology to enhance teaching and learning and ensure their effective use.
  • Design and evaluate assessments and learning experiences that measure student achievement, inform course improvement, and incorporate feedback.
  • Support faculty professional development in the areas of teaching, technology integration, and course design.
