Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking an HPC Security Architect to lead the design, implementation, and governance of security across its advanced research computing ecosystem, including AMA27, SeaWulf, NVWulf, and ClinWulf.

The role drives secure-by-design practices, aligns with HIPAA, NIST 800-171, NIH GDS, and AI governance standards, and partners with DoIT, SBMIT, Research Security, IRB, and faculty to embed security across compute, storage, and data workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of related full-time cybersecurity experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• 9 years total cybersecurity/research computing experience may substitute for a degree.
• Experience aligning security controls with HIPAA, NIST 800-171, and regulated environments.
• Experience translating regulatory requirements into technical implementations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, and governance of security architecture across Stony Brook University's advanced research computing ecosystem.
• Develop multi-tier security architecture for HPC environments and secure compute/storage networks.
• Establish risk-based security framework aligned with HIPAA, NIST 800-171, NIH GDS, and AI governance standards.
