Job summary

SmartStart Education, LLC is seeking a Hybrid High School ELA Tutor to support grades 10–12 with both in-person and virtual sessions. You will run small-group tutoring on Mondays and offer additional virtual one-on-one sessions based on student needs, tracking progress and attendance using a mobile device.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree, has at least one year of teaching or tutoring experience, and is committed to helping urban students succeed in ELA.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is mandatory.
• At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience.
• Strong mastery of high school ELA concepts.
• Understanding of urban student challenges related to race, socio-economic status, and culture.
• Punctual and reliable with a commitment to student success.
• Excellent communication with students, colleagues, and families.
• Ability to commute to the school location.
• Ability to navigate a school environment during the workday.

Responsibilities

• Deliver in-person small-group ELA instruction (1:4) on Mondays 12:45–4:45 PM.
• Provide virtual one-on-one tutoring Tuesday–Saturday as scheduling allows.
• Take daily attendance and monitor student progress using a personal device.
• Adapt instruction to meet each student’s learning needs.
• Maintain a professional tutoring environment and adhere to schedules.
