Job summary

UC Irvine is seeking a Financial Aid Basic Needs Counselor to apply expertise in student aid programs, allocate aid, and provide counseling for sensitive issues. The role serves as the primary contact for students and staff of the Basic Needs Center and supports initiatives addressing food, housing, health, wellness, and financial insecurity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area; 5–10 years of directly related professional experience.
• Ability to calculate financial aid with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication, and customer service orientation.
• Working knowledge of advising/counseling techniques and university policies.
• Experience using complex databases and organizing multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Apply broad understanding of student aid programs to determine appropriate aid allocation and authorize exceptions.
• Serve as main contact for students, staff and affiliates of the Basic Needs Center.
• Proactively award emergency grants identified by the campus Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT).
