Job summary

UC Santa Barbara is seeking an Executive Advisor Manager 1 to serve as CFO and Chief Financial & Operations officer for the Vice Chancellor for Research. You will lead financial management for ORUs, ARC, and central research administration, partnering with the AVCR on campus-wide initiatives.

The role requires executive-level advisory experience, fiscal leadership, and a strong grasp of regulatory and policy frameworks, with a hybrid work arrangement and full benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent training.
• 7–9 years budget, finance, research administration and/or management experience in higher education.
• 1–3 years advising executives in a CFO or similar role.
• Demonstrated ability to address complex issues with little precedent.
• Flexibility, resourcefulness, and understanding of the institutional context.
• Thorough knowledge of financial/budgetary/policy systems.
• Strong consulting, relationship-building and strategic thinking skills.
• Proven ability to use tools to perform complex financial analysis and reporting.
• Excellent communication, leadership and diplomacy.
