Job summary

Waymo LLC is seeking an experienced safety leader to own Operations Performance on Waymo’s Field Safety team. You will apply human factors engineering and HOP principles to identify and drive safety improvements across autonomous and manual driving operations, testing programs, and depot environments.

The role follows a hybrid schedule and reports to the Senior Director, Safety. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• MS in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Organizational Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related degree.
• 10+ years experience with safety involving human-system interaction and complex socio-technical systems (e.g. autonomous systems, transportation, aerospace, robotics, or defense).
• Demonstrated expertise applying human factors engineering and HOP principles to incident investigations and risk control design.
• Self-motivated and eager for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead deep-dive investigations into complex field events involving human-system interactions to drive safety improvements.
• Define and govern enterprise-level safety requirements and standards for human drivers and vehicle operators, including fatigue management andDistracted-driver risk mitigations.
• Analyze operational field data to feed closed-loop safety learning.
• Be a champion for a just safety culture throughout the organization.
