Job summary

Advocates for Children of New York (AFC) seeks an inspirational, strategic, and mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization through its next chapter. The leader will align operations, foster a culture that empowers staff, and elevate AFC’s voice in educational justice.

The ED will drive fundraising, policy advocacy, and external relations while collaborating closely with the Board and senior leadership to scale impact for New York City students and families.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit providing services to low-income communities and families.
• Exhibits AFC's values: family-centered, expertise, justice and impact.
• Experience leading teams through innovation and organizational change.
• Strong experience in fundraising, policy, advocacy and external relations.
• Excellent collaboration with boards and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a five-year strategic plan to advance AFC's mission.
• Scale organizational capacity and sustainability through stronger systems.
• Foster an inclusive, values-driven culture and team cohesion.
• Lead fundraising, policy advocacy, and external relations strategically.
• Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Nurture Board relationships and governance engagement.
• Represent AFC publicly in media and education policy circles.
