Job summary

The ESOL Instructor at Arab American Family Support Center works within our Readiness Initiatives Program to provide limited English proficient adults with contextualized instruction that gives students the civic and English language skills to effectively participate in the English-speaking environment in which they live.

The instructor fosters a classroom environment that offers participants the resources, opportunities and support needed to help them grow and achieve self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Teaching certification (TESLA, TESOL, CELTA, etc.) required.
• BEST Plus certification required.
• Ability to teach both remote online classes and in-person classes.
• Experience teaching beginner adult students, including Literacy Learners, required.
• Excellent writing and editing skills; strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience teaching multi-level classes in a single room.
• Flexible with an open enrollment schedule.

Responsibilities

• Develop and write new lesson plans or adapt existing plans to meet class objectives.
• Provide instruction and facilitate classroom activities aligned with objectives.
• Prepare students to take Citizenship tests and pass the interview.
• Build instructional activities around reading components: alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension.
• Use a variety of instructional deliveries including individualized, small group and whole class.
• Incorporate digital literacy and financial literacy activities.
