Job summary

Wilson Elser - Business & Legal Professionals is seeking an Escrow Accounting Manager for our New York City (Midtown) office. The role leads a team handling IOLTA, client trust, escrow, and fiduciary accounts with a focus on compliance and accuracy.

Success hinges on deep trust accounting expertise, regulatory knowledge, and strong leadership to ensure timely reconciliations, settlements, and audits while coordinating with Billing and Finance teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• 10+ Years experience with trust/fiduciary accounting preferably in a law firm
• 3–5 years of progressively responsible legal accounting management experience required
• Direct experience with IOLTA, attorney trust accounting, client trust accounting, or legal escrow accounting required
• Experience managing settlement funds and complex client disbursements are strongly preferred.
• Prior supervisory or team leadership experience required.
• Familiarity with IOLTA requirements and state bar rules preferred.
• Experience with Aderant, Elite, or a comparable financial system preferred

Responsibilities

• Direct the team responsible for the administration and accounting of IOLTA, client trust, escrow, and other fiduciary accounts.
• Establish and maintain controls over the receipt, transfer, and disbursement of client funds.
• Monitor account activity for unusual transactions and compliance issues.
• Coordinate settlement and escrow disbursements with accuracy and compliance.
• Partner with Billing, Finance, and attorneys to transfer earned fees from trust accounts to Firm operating accounts.
• Direct the team in reconciling trust-related activity with billing and A/R records.
• Prepare reports and documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.
• Maintain audit trails and segregation of duties.
