Job summary

Aptonet is seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer to design, integrate, deploy, and support technology systems used in railroad environments. You will work with electrical hardware, embedded computing, cameras, sensors, networking, and AI to deliver reliable field solutions.

The role emphasizes systems-level understanding and collaboration across engineering, cybersecurity, and field teams to implement machine vision, trackside inspection, robotics, and AI-enabled monitoring in laboratory and field

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering field.
• Experience developing, integrating, or troubleshooting complex hardware/software systems.
• Working knowledge of C++ and Python.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, embedded computers, networks, sensors, and field equipment.
• Understanding of electrical and electronic fundamentals and schematics/readings.
• Knowledge of computer networking and IP networking.

Responsibilities

• Translate operational needs into system architectures, requirements, interfaces, and plans.
• Integrate electrical, mechanical, embedded, software, and field infrastructure components.
• Connect electronics, PCBs, embedded computers, cameras, sensors, networking, servers, and AI models.
• Identify risks, dependencies, performance limits, and integration challenges.
• Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, software, networking, sensors, data, and field conditions.
• Collaborate with multiple engineering teams to deliver reliable railroad systems.
• Develop and maintain embedded software and scripts in C++ and Python.
• Support deployment, testing, and field validation of systems.
• Analyze system performance to identify bottlenecks and issues.
